SUMMARY:Copyright Criminals free screening event
LOCATION:Media Bridges\, 1100 Race Street\, Cincinnati OH 45202
DESCRIPTION:http://www.mediabridges.org/calendar?eventId=111367&EventViewMode=EventDetails\n\nCan you own a sound? As hip-hop rose from the streets of New York to become a multi-million dollar industry\, artists such as Public Enemy and De la Soul began reusing parts of previously recorded music for their songs. But when record company lawyers got involved\, everythging changed. Years before people started downloading and remixing music\, hip-hop sampling sparked a debate about copyright\, creativity and technological change that still goes on today. Copyright Criminals\, a documentary by Bejamin Franzen and Kembrew Mcleod\, follows the history of hip-hop sampling while addressing issues on copyright\, fair use\, and different ideas on how we define art. Media Bridges\, through a partnership with Independent Lens\, is proud to announce that we will be offering a free community screening of this film prior to its on air debut on PBS. Following the screening will be a panel discussion with local experts in the field of music\, sampling\, fair use\, and copyright law. Please join us at Media Bridges (1100 Race St.) Friday\, January 15th at 7 p.m. for the local premier of this exciting film. Although the event will be free\, due to limited seating we are requiring that attendees register in advance on our website.
