Media Bridges, Cincinnati’s Community Media Center, exists to empower diverse communities to effectively utilize the power of media.
Media - be it television, radio, film, the internet, newspapers, photography — plays a significant role in our everyday lives. It informs us. It influences us. It entertains us. It is a mechanism for communication, a venue for expression, and a vehicle for change. However, the media is being held in the hands of fewer and fewer entities. Through consolidation, buyouts, and corporate mergers, the majority of media channels are being controlled by the a few media conglomerates with the deepest pockets. This prevents independent and alternative media to be seen and heard every day. As a result, we are left with mainstream messaging and entertainment that may or may not represent you or your community.
While the Internet is seen as a tool to equal the playing field, a million hits on a You Tube video cannot compare to the millions that watch network and cable television everyday. How often does a viral video have any impact on your community? How often does a television program impact your community? How often does music, radio, newspapers, and photography impact your community?
Media Bridges exists to take the tools of media and put them in the hands of the community. Individuals and organizations can share their talent, their viewpoints, and engage their community in a way that otherwise would not be possible. Media Bridges provides free classes and training and offers free access to equipment so that members of the community can create their own media productions. We also offer discounted video production services to local nonprofits to provide them with a powerful tool for educating, raising funds and awareness.
Our four public access stations offer a means to reach over 165,000 television viewers in Greater Cincinnati. If you wish to provide content for airing on these stations, just contact us and we’ll show you how to make it happen.
