Media
Literacy is the ability to communicate competently in all media forms
as well as to understand, interpret, analyze and evaluate the messages
we receive from television, radio, magazines, newspapers and advertising.
Through activities and discussion, participants will identify the key
techniques and devices the media uses to persuade, convince and manipulate
the things we see and read in the media. The powerful use of language
and images will be covered and participants will learn to apply what
they have learned to analyze television programs, advertisements and
other media. Production Theory:
This program focuses on the theories and concepts that go into creating
a production. Participants will discuss the many aspects of production,
from idea conception, resource allocation and maintenance to audience,
design and post-production. Readings from members in the field and discussion
oriented classes will lead participants to a better understanding of
the workings of the production industry.
