        Summer Youth Media Camps 2011

Want to learn how to be a radio DJ? Do you love movies and want to make your own? This summer's Youth Media Camps give kids and young adults ages 8-18 the chance to learn about and create their own media productions. Check out some of the upcoming camps taking place at Media Bridges this summer. Registration will be opening shortly, so stay tuned!

Classic Horror Movie Camp (ages 14-18), June 20-24
Learn the gory details of horror film production! This camp covers script writing, storyboarding, lighting, sound, make-up, special effects, mixing fake blood, and other aspects of production. Students explore and analyze horror films, and have in-depth discussions about the genre.

Sportscasting Camp (ages 14-18), June 27- July 1

Participants will create sports news packages as well as participate in a recorded round table discussion on several sports topics they choose. Students will visit a professional sports-casting facility, and meet sports news professionals!

Radio Production Camp (ages 14-18), June 27-July 1
Participants will also learn about the history of radio, as well as study the production behind classic "olde-tyme" radio programs and how it relates to radio today.  Students learn how to create and broadcast their own live and recorded radio programs - both modern and classic.  And finally they will produce and record their own program!

Animation Camp (ages 8-13), July 5-8
Students learn stop-motion, traditional and computer 3D animation, and produce their own short animated films.This includes script writing, storyboarding, whiteboard animation, clay modeling, 3D modeling/animation, miniature set building, and other aspects of animation production.

News Production Camp (ages 14-18), July 11-15
Covers the basics of news gathering, video journalism, and studio newscast production. They will produce news packages, and include them into a final live newscast. Includes pre-production, script/story writing, camera work, blue-screen, weather forecasts, and other aspects of TV news production.

Video Production Camp (ages 8-13), July 18-22
Students learn the basics of video production and storytelling, and produce their own short movie. This includes pre-production, script writing, storyboarding, lighting, sound, and other aspects of production. Different genres are covered including news-gathering, video journalism, independent film, TV show production, and more.

Radio Production Camp (ages 8-13), July 25-29

Video Production Camp (ages 8-13), July 25-29

Indie Film Boot Camp (ages 14-18), August 1- 12
In this two-week camp, students learn the art of independent film production, and produce their own short movie under the guidance of a professional film director/producer.  This will include learning and participating in pre-production, script writing, storyboarding, lighting, sound, and other aspects of independent film production.  They will explore and analyze the independent film movement, and have in-depth discussions about the genre.

    

All Camps meet Monday through Friday (except Animation Camp), from  9 a.m. til 12 p.m. at the Media Bridges community media facility at 1100 Race Street.
